Young person sanctioned and made to pay for damage to a park bin.

Dear Resident

On the 18th March 2025 it was identified that a bin in a park was damaged, due to the location been covered by Atherstone Town CCTV the cameras were reviewed and three suspects where identified.

Police have then spoken with the suspects and their parents advising them of their actions been inappropriate.

The three suspects, who are all children and details cannot be named, were dealt with using an out of court disposal with the condition that the cost of the replacement bin be paid equally between all of them, allowing the damage to be repaired at their cost and not the public purse.

Police have now been able to finalise the crime.

PC Taylor the Officer dealing with the case, commented: “Though this be a minor matter in the grand scheme, someone ends up picking up the bill for this sort of mindless damage and in general this is the public purse. We ask Parents/Guardians to be aware of what their child are up to particular in the school holidays and though kids will be kids police will tackle anti-social behaviour and use the most appropriate powers to tackle this".
