Shed/Outbuilding Burglaries

At this time of year, we often see increased opportunities for theft from sheds, garages and other outbuildings. These areas can contain valuable items such as bikes, power tools, quads, and gardening equipment.

A few simple steps can make a real difference:

Keep sheds, garages and outbuildings locked at all times, using a good quality, secure padlock.

Secure tools and equipment inside the shed, preferably in a locked box or secured to a fixed point.

Secure bikes and other valuable items to a ground or wall anchor where possible.

Consider security lighting around sheds, garages, side gates and other vulnerable areas.

Consider CCTV or a shed alarm to provide an additional layer of protection.

Keep gardens and access routes visible and avoid creating hiding places around gates, fences and outbuildings.

Secure side gates and make sure they cannot be easily opened from outside.

Property-mark valuable items and keep photographs and serial numbers. This can help with identification and recovery if something is stolen.
